Take me out to the ball game

Take me out to the ball game

Posted on 08. May, 2010 by Johnathan in Gallery, Korean Culture, Recreation

Went to the baseball game today and watched Busan’s team, the Lotte Giants, pull an upset over the Dusan Bears. Lotte is the worst team in the league, but they were able to pull off 13 straight runs after giving up the first 4 in the opening inning. Baseball has a special culture in Busan, one with intricate cheers and practical props.  Every player must have had a special cheer or song that the stadium shared. Snacks and drink in hand, I tried to keep pace with Jong-hun and the ruckus crowd. Can’t say I did a good job, but it was lots of fun to scream MAH at the opposing pitcher, chant along for no apparent reason, or yell at people to give foul balls to children.

Click on the photos for extra info. Cultural pointers include newspaper pompoms and bag heads.

Yeah, I know how you feel. My favorite hockey team constantly underachieves and dropped out of the playoffs today after a really bad game. As for the Giants, I went on the 7th and wrote this article the same night, but published the next night after uploading photos. I heard they lost REALLY badly today, what happened?
